The Toyota Corolla Cross doesn’t come with a sunglasses holder. With limited storage space in the cabin, the unused driver-side roof grab handle mount is a perfect location — and an aftermarket glasses holder box clips directly into it with no drilling.

Toyota’s service centres won’t do this for you — I confirmed this during a 1,000km service. But it’s a simple 5-minute DIY job.

What You Need

  • Aftermarket Toyota Corolla Cross glasses/sunglasses holder box (available on Shopee — search “Corolla Cross glasses holder”, confirm it fits the roof handle mount)
  • L-shaped screwdriver (small head, for accessing the locking hole)

Installation Steps

Step 1: Open the handle cover

Find the small hole on the side of the existing grab handle. Insert the L-shaped screwdriver into the hole to release the locking mechanism and open the case.

Step 2: Detach the handle from the roof

Inside the opened case, you’ll see a silver clip holding the handle to the roof mount. Pinch the clip to detach the handle from the car roof.

Step 3: Remove the clip mount

With the handle removed, pinch the silver clip to detach the mounting clip from the roof attachment point. This clip holds the original handle in place — it releases with light pressure.

Step 4: Install the glasses holder

Place the glasses storage holder into position on the roof mount. Push the provided pins through the holes to secure it. The pins click into the same anchor points the original handle used.

Done. The entire swap takes under 5 minutes.

Result

The holder sits flush against the roof above the driver’s seat. Sunglasses, a parking card, or a small lens cloth fit comfortably. The spring-loaded door holds glasses securely even over bumpy roads.

Reversible: Keep the original grab handle. If you need to restore the original configuration (e.g., before a service), the same clip system allows removal and reinstallation in the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Corolla Cross have a built-in sunglasses holder? No. The 2021–2024 Malaysia spec does not include one from the factory.

Will this void my Toyota warranty? Toyota service centres won’t assist with this modification. The installation is fully reversible — reinstall the original handle before service visits if concerned.

What tools do I need? An L-shaped screwdriver to reach the locking hole in the handle cover. The glasses holder includes its own installation pins.
